Tahoe Beaches

Check out www.tahoefund.org for a free app to locate over 50 beaches in Lake Tahoe. Once on their page the app is located under the projects tab.

Chimney Beach, 3 miles north of Glenbrook Bay, has parking up by the road and a short hike down to the water.

Sand Harbor

This beautiful sandy beach is located down the East Shore just outside of Incline Village. There is a fee, but the views of the sunset and the mountains on the Southwest end of the Lake are worth it. During the summer, outdoor music concerts, plays and in particular, the Shakespeare Festival, take place at the outdoor amphitheater overlooking the Lake.

Hidden Beach, 2 miles north of Sand Harbor, has narrow sands and large granite boulders. A popular beach with locals, clothing is optional here. Parking on the road is limited.

Crystal Bay: Speed Boat Beach/Buck’s Beach

This beach is actually located in Kings Beach, right on the state border west of Nevada. Park on the road or at one of the casinos and take the right just West of Cal Neva Resort & Casino. Follow a small road down to this secluded beach that features fun rock formations for climbing and hopping. Dogs are not allowed here.

Kings Beach: Kings Beach State Recreation Area

Located in the heart of Kings Beach off of Hwy 28, this beach features basketball, and volleyball courts. Stop by any time of day to jump into a pick-up game of either. The beach is flat with lots of sand and good swimming. Skip across the street for a quick burger and lots of authentic Mexican food. Weekly Farmer's Market on Tuesday, Thursday concerts and movies on Tuesday evening.

Tahoe Vista: Tahoe Vista: Moon Dunes Beach

Located near Pino Grande Avenue in Tahoe Vista, this is a secluded beach that requires a little bit of hiking to access. Park on the road and follow a small creek to the 600’ sunbathing and swimming beach. Portable restrooms, but no concessions, so bring your own water and picnic lunch.

Carnelian Bay: Carnelian Bay Beach

Located by Sierra Boat Co. & Gar Woods, this is a wide, flat sandy beach that gets a lot of sun. Wander over to Gar Woods for lunch and a signature Wet Woody. Parking is along the road or across the street in one of the commercial parking areas.

Tahoe City: Commons Beach

Located behind the fire station in Tahoe City, this beach is home to free weekly concerts and movies throughout the summer. An extensive children’s playground and a grassy area are uphill from the sandy shoreline. The water is shallow, but good for young children to wade in. There are no concessions at the shows, picnic and bbq’ing are allowed as long as you clean up after yourself and pack out what you brought in. There is also a weekly morning farmer’s market in the beach parking lot.

West Shore: Chambers Landing.

Located about nine miles south of Tahoe City on Hwy 89, this is a flat, sandy beach adjacent to Chambers Landing Restaurant and Dock Bar. There is lots of boat traffic at the bar, and entertaining customers sipping the famous Chambers Punch, but the swimming area is safe for children and there is a special beach section that allows dogs. There is a fee for parking or you can park along the street and walk down. Concessions include sodas, water and grill food at the Dock Bar.
